An assistant on every screen
Everything in Bricklane can be done by asking. The assistant answers questions about your business, makes changes, builds reports and dashboards, and runs automations you describe in plain English.
It works inside the same rules as the rest of Bricklane: it can do what the person asking is allowed to do, money answers come from the same tested reports you can open, and nothing changes until you approve it.

It sees what you're looking at
Open the assistant in the pane on the right of any screen and it already knows what's on it: the invoice, the route, the billing run. Every screen shares its numbers with it, so you can ask about what you see without copying anything. For longer work, open it as the whole page.
- Why is this invoice part paid?
- Which drafts in this run are missing a PO?
- Who ran this route before July?
- Which of these sites have no billing account?
Numbers you can check
A confident wrong number is worse than no answer. When a question involves money, the assistant answers from the same tested reports you can open yourself, and links to the report it used, so the number in the answer is the number in the report. If it can't be exact, it says so.
- What's in our 90-plus-day bucket?
- How much finished work haven't we billed?
- Has Harbor Mercantile paid invoice 27?
- Which clients were most profitable last quarter?
Tell it what to change
Every action in Bricklane is a tool the assistant can use, and its tools are the permissions of the person asking: an office manager's assistant can change billing, a tech's can't open the aging report. Before it changes anything, it shows you exactly what will change, down to which past jobs a billing change would have affected, and waits for you to approve it.
- Bill every Harbor Mercantile East site to Harbor Mercantile East AP.
- Skip next week's jobs at Store 203.
- Require a photo before a tech can close a job at the Flagship.
- Add Store 204 to the Harbor Mercantile contract, every week on Monday.
Approved before it happens
You see the change and what it affects, then approve it or say no. Billing and setup changes can be rolled back in one click.
Recorded as the assistant's
Every question, every tool the assistant used and every change it made is kept, and changes are marked as made by the assistant and approved by you.
Reports and dashboards
Bricklane's reports cover aging, revenue by period, unbilled work, tech utilization, job completion, client profitability and expiring contracts. Describe the dashboard you want and the assistant builds it from those reports, or have any report emailed on a schedule.
- Build a dashboard of unbilled work by market and aging by client.
- Email me revenue by market every Monday at 7 a.m.
- Send each market manager their route completion rate every Friday.
- Which contracts expire in the next 60 days?
Automations you describe
Say what should happen and when, and the assistant sets it up as an automation: the trigger, the condition and the action, shown to you before it's turned on.
- When an invoice over $500 is 7 days overdue, email accounts payable and give the office a call task.
- Send a review request after every completed job.
- Give the office a task whenever a job goes to the Reviews queue.
- Remind every client with landscaping sites about spring cleanup in March.
Set up by conversation
Upload a recent invoice and your service list, and answer a few questions about how your jobs run and how each client is billed. The assistant drafts your setup, and you review it section by section before anything goes live.
- Here's last month's invoice to Harbor Mercantile. Set up their billing to match.
- We clean storefronts every week and exterior windows every 2 weeks. Add those services.
